Frequently Asked Questions

How Can Therapy Help Me?

Therapy isn’t just for "fixing" problems, it’s a space to reclaim your story, strengthen your resilience, and align your life with your values. Whether you’re navigating:

  • Gender identity or sexuality in a world that often feels rigid,
  • Neurodivergence (ADHD, autism, etc.) in systems not designed for you,
  • Complex trauma that lingers in your body and relationships,
  • Or the exhaustion of trying to "fit in" while staying true to yourself...

Therapy with me offers:

✔ A safe, affirming space to explore who you are, without judgment.

✔ Tools tailored to your neurotype (no forced "one-size-fits-all" coping skills).

✔ Trauma healing that honors your pace and autonomy.

✔ Clarity and confidence to live by your values, not others’ expectations.

Do I Really Need Therapy? I Usually Handle Things on My Own.

Short answer: If you’re asking this, therapy might already be a helpful option.

Many of my clients are high-achievers, deeply self-aware, or used to being the "strong one." But strength isn’t about doing everything alone, it’s about knowing when to seek support. Therapy is for people who:

  • Feel "stuck" in cycles of anxiety, shame, or burnout.
  • Want to unpack trauma without being re-traumatized.
  • Are tired of masking their neurodivergence or identities to survive.

What’s Therapy Like?

Your therapy, your way. Sessions are:

  • Collaborative: You set the pace. We’ll explore your goals, whether that’s healing trauma, navigating LGBTQ+ identity, or aligning your life with your values.
  • Non-pathologizing: Your differences aren’t "disorders." We’ll focus on your strengths.
  • Liberation-focused: We’ll examine how systems (oppression, ableism, etc.) impact your mental health, not just "individual fixes."

Practical details:

  • 55-minute sessions, typically weekly.
  • Homework is optional (e.g., journaling, art, or experiments in setting boundaries).

Medication vs. Therapy

Medication can help manage symptoms, it's a great tool, but therapy addresses the roots, especially for:

  • Neurodivergent folks needing strategies beyond stimulants.
  • Trauma survivors healing nervous system responses.
  • LGBTQ+ clients navigating minority stress.

I’ll support you in making informed choices (including collaborating with prescribers if needed).

Insurance & Confidentiality

Insurance: I’m out-of-network but provide superbills for reimbursement. Ask your insurer:

  • "Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?"
  • "What’s my reimbursement rate per session?"

Confidentiality: What you share stays private, with exceptions required by law (e.g., harm to self/others, abuse). I’ll explain all policies in your first session.
