Many folks I work with are chronic people pleasers, overachievers, the caregivers/responsible ones in their family or friend groups, and people who often don't prioritize themselves first. This tendency to focus on others while sacrificing your own needs is often present in survivors of childhood neglect/abuse, traumatic experiences, domestic violence but can also come from having a compassionate nature or strong desire to help others. The cost of this is often burnout, depression, anxiety, and disconnection.
Treatment Approach
I support people in restoring connection with their values, agency, and sense of purpose. We'll work on building healthy approaches to relationship and work/life balance and build up an intuitive approach toward caring and nurturing yourself. We will do this while working to overcome obstacles created by tough or traumatic experiences.
Initially we will work together to get a clearer idea about who you really are. This may look like exploring your central values, your intersecting identities/cultural backgrounds, or reconnecting with hidden joys and passions. We may then explore the narratives or beliefs that have restrained you from living fully as yourself. Then we will begin rebuilding your trust in your own intuition/authentic voice by creating more consistent safety and follow through on value-driven actions of living. In essence, we will work together to restore confidence, bravery, and certainty in yourself.
